PL: Little Cheeser is a young mouse who thinks he's more grown up than he is.
PL: Mama tells him to go to bed, calling him "Mama's little man"; he
PL: doesn't want to.  His devil side emerges and guides him to the cheese
PL: in the pantry, where his angel side appears to stop him. The devil
PL: leads him on to the smoking supplies, where he lights a pipe, then to a
PL: racy magazine, and then to the booze.  The soused Cheeser goes looking
PL: for the cat, but when he finds it, the reality sobers him up quickly.
PL: The devil, meanwhile, has been trapped in a copy of Dante's Inferno by
PL: the angel.  The angel helps Cheeser escape, and he's all too happy to
PL: go to bed and be Mama's little man.

PL: cannot distinguish his students until they speak.  He suffers from
PL: visual agnosia, more specifically prosopagnosia, which only allows him
PL: to see details that he must cognitively assemble to identify an object.
PL: For example, he can describe a rose as a "convoluted red form with a
PL: linear green extension," but can only identify it as a rose by
PL: smell. Dr S, the neurologist, examines him, first in a clinic,
PL: then in his home environment, and deals with Dr P's concerned wife,
PL: culminating in a heated argument about whether Dr P's paintings are
PL: abstract art or the result of his occipital degeneration.  Dr S only
PL: learns how Dr and Mrs P cope with the situation, but cannot diagnose
PL: the situation. The opera, filmed cinematically on locations and
PL: sets and not on a theatrical stage, is intercut, sometimes jarringly,
PL: with footage of Oliver Sacks reflecting on his encounters with Dr P, as
PL: well as scenes of a pathologist examining the real Dr P's brain,
PL: identifying his condition as a rare but not unique symptom of
PL: Alzheimer's, for until near the very end his only symptoms were
PL: strictly occipital, suggesting, perhaps, a tumor.  This material, which
PL: is sometimes redundant, gives the film the effect of a documentary with
PL: staged reenactments, only the reenactments are operatic rather than
PL: standard non-musical drama.

PL: chagrin.  As the singers keep informing us (until the king shuts the
PL: window on them), it's the end of his happiness.  We spend most of the
PL: picture watching his baby assembly line, as he washes them, sends them
PL: through the rinse line, dries them with a roller towel, powders them,
PL: sends them floating along with balloons, diapers them with paper towels
PL: stapled in place, and finally flips them into sleep suits and into
PL: their cradles.  Time to catch up on the sewing; the machine is
PL: connected to the cradles and rocks them as he sews.  Once everyone is
PL: asleep, the king rests, until two babies run the machine at warp speed,
PL: sending everyone flying, ultimately into the king's lap.

PL: a bowl of jelly in the process and decides to raid the fridge; he puts
PL: Jerry's tail under an iron.  After some snacking, Tom buries Jerry in
PL: the cream from a creampuff.  But he also tosses the cheese wedge into
PL: the china cabinet, bringing Mammy down to scold him.  Time for a
PL: scapegoat: Tom stuffs Jerry into the fridge, then runs to the next
PL: room.  When Mammy screams, Tom chases Jerry but this chase ends
PL: differently, with Tom trapped in the ironing board. Jerry takes careful
PL: aim with a fork, sending Tom into the fridge, where Mammy thrashes him
PL: as Tom munches on the cheese.
